The reality of living in my own "Dante's Inferno" engenders thoughts of my mortality. With much love, I have grown, adapted, and found perspective. I learned life is a precious gift to be nurtured, shared, and passed on in unique ways. I paraphrased the great Stephen Hawking when I established my mantra. I can now say "I have chronic pain, but chronic pain does not have me." And so, I let these flames that engulf and torment my body, but do not afford me the luxury of being consumed, enkindle the flames in my mind that purify the memories of how I have been nurtured and how much I have been loved.
